As a support service for young people we aim to help them
move successfully into adult life and to enable them to get
the most out of education, training and employment.
Employers are vital to the success of Connexions. We need
involvement and interest from employers as well as opportunities
to place young people into work.
Connexions provides employers with a vacancy handling service
which is free of charge to help in the recruitment of young
people. Connexions can help match your vacancy to young people
looking for work and then advise you on how best to train
and develop them to meet your business needs. For further
detail see our Vacancy Service.
We can also help and advise you on the different employment
legislation regarding employing young people. See National
Minimum Wage and Working Time Regulations
for more information.
Apprenticeship training is an excellent way of developing
young people to gain the skills and experience you need to
improve the quality of your workforce and in most cases will
be free to both you, the employer and the apprentice For further
information click Apprenticeships.
Connexions also co-ordinate work experience placements for
most of the schools in the County. Work experience is where
a young person still in education spends a period of time
(usually 2 weeks) on placement with an employer. We use Veryan,
an online work experience booking and Health & Safety
management system. Students can make choices on line and the
schools use the system to book young people into a placement.
The central team at Connexions manages the Health and Safety
aspect of the placements. The way work experience is organised
in schools may differ and is usually determined by the curriculum
and the needs of their young people. For further details click
on Work Experience.
