Northamptonshire UK Youth Parliament
Elections

COMING up this month, young people from across Northamptonshire
have the opportunity to vote in an election to decide the
representatives from the county in the UK Youth Parliament.
38 young people are standing for election to represent the
7 districts across Northamptonshire. From these 4 Members
of Youth Parliament and 4 Deputy Members will be elected.
The process, facilitated by Connexions Northamptonshire’s
Youth Involvement Team, is supported by organisations that
work with young people as well as schools from across the
county. This involves young people applying, attending training,
writing and delivering their speech through a hustings style
situation and developing an election campaign. Every young
person aged between 13 and 19 years from across the county
can vote during half term, using the Internet, for the person
they would most like to represent them.
Voting opens to eligible young people at 9am on Monday
18th February and closes at 5pm on Friday
22nd February. Supported by Northamptonshire County
Council, young people can vote by visiting www.activenorthants.co.uk
and reading all candidates’ election speeches and then
selecting their preferred candidate. Young people can vote
anywhere in the county that has Internet access including
all Libraries and Connexions Access Points. There is further
information and a link to the site from the Connexions website
www.4you2.org.uk.
All votes will be counted and results will be announced at
the Announcements and Celebration Evening, taking place at
the Guildhall in Northampton on Tuesday 26th February at 6:00pm.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to meet with
their local MP and plan their work as a Member of UK Youth
Parliament (MYP). All young people who stood for election
will receive recognition.
Sarah Hillier, Senior Youth Involvement Worker at Connexions
Northamptonshire said: “Young people often say they
are not listened to, this is their opportunity to use their
voice by voting for the Member of Youth Parliament they want
to represent their area”.
