Jobs website launched for young work seekers

Young people in Northamptonshire can now access a new jobs website which details all the latest opportunities for young people in the county.

Connexions Northamptonshire have launched a new vacancies website which will allow young people to interrogate a live database of local vacancies.

Mary Hilliard Access Manager said: “ Our previous system only enabled us to manually update vacancies on a weekly basis. The new website will update automatically to display all vacancies that are currently available.”

The new website is designed to be both fun and easy to use whilst providing young work seekers with all the tools they need to make them successful.

The interface is very user friendly and works like a shopping cart, which young people are familiar with. Firstly users select the towns they want to find work in and the job categories they are interested in for example: retail, travel, manufacturing, or construction and building. Vacancies that match their criteria are displayed. Users can see more details and select the ones they are interested in. They can then view their ‘selection basket’ at any time, discard jobs they think they might not be suitable for or go back and search for new ones in a different category. At the end of their search they can send a registration form to their local Connexions Access Point or call in and get help from a Personal Adviser.

The site also features an extensive range of information to assist job seekers including articles on training programmes and minimum wage. The site also provides links to Connexions jobsites in neighbouring counties for those living on the County boarders. Fact sheets are being added for young people to download on completing application forms, writing CVs and going for interviews.

Kerry Senatore, manager of the Central Vacancy Unit (CVU), which handles all the vacancies from employers, said: “ We advertise around 1000 vacancies per year across the county to our client group aged 16-19. It will improve the FREE vacancy service we provide to local employers by promoting their vacancies quickly and directly to the target group.
All partners/agencies as well as parents that are helping young people with their job search will find it an extremely useful tool. Employers looking to advertise a vacancy to young people can contact CVU on 01604 614939, your vacancy once agreed with be available online instantly.“

The site can be found at Connexions Northamptonshire website for young people http://www.4you2.org.uk, click on the link jobs4you2.
