A new on-line prospectus detailing all post-16 learning opportunities
across the county has been launched.
XPLORE is a new dynamic website which details all the learning
opportunities available in schools, colleges and work based
learning in Northamptonshire for 16 to 19 year olds.
The website has been commissioned by Northamptonshire’s
14-19 Strategy Group in response to DfES requirements to provide
on-line prospectuses. The project has been managed by Connexions
with support from the Learning and Skills Council and local
schools and colleges.
The XPLORE On-Line prospectus is an extension of the successful
paper-based XPLORE, which has been available to Year 11s for
the past two years. The online version allows young people
to search it’s huge database by Learning Provider, Course
Name or by Key Word so finding information about the types
of learning the young person is interested in is quick and
easy. More detailed information about the courses is also
available together with an extensive advice and guidance section
containing lots of information to help young people with their
decision-making.
Michelle Brett, Project Manager for XPLORE said: “Young
people will be able to make more informed choices about the
different learning routes that are on offer. It is a wonderful
resource to assist young people in their decision-making in
year 11.
Anyone can look at the site but Year 11s will be issued with
a unique username and password through their school, which
allows them to make applications for courses through the site.
Once a young person has logged on they will be able to manage
their personal details and create an application form that
can be sent to a learning provider via the website. They will
receive acknowledgement of their application and other communication
directly from the provider via XPLORE. The application process
is similar to the University UCAS system
The website will be launched to all Year 11s in the county
at the beginning of February via a postcard mailshot
Michelle Brett added: “ Later in the year we will also
be adding courses for 14-16 year olds, although the application
system is for post-16 only. XPLORE will then feature all learning
opportunities for the whole 14-19 age-range and will hopefully
become an invaluable resource helping young people across
the county make appropriate decisions at two key points in
their education.”
