Information for Partners/Staff

 Our Work with Learning Providers

In this section of the site you will find information for secondary mainstream and special schools, pupil referral units, academies, further education colleges and e2e providers

Connexions is the county’s lead agency for supporting learning providers to deliver high quality Careers Education, Information, Advice, Guidance and Support (CEIAGS) for 13-19 year olds. We do this through:

  • Our Personal Advisers – who work directly with young people.
  • Our IAGS Development Team – which supports you to manage and deliver your own CEIAGS provision.
  • Our Central Vacancy Unit – which provides a vacancy matching service between employers and young people.
  • The county’s Work Experience Team – which manages work experience for young people in schools.

CEIAGS Resources Fair and CLI 2010

Connexions Northamptonshire’s annual CEIAGS Resources Fair will be held on 9th June 2010 at King’s Park Conference Centre, Moulton Park, Northampton.  This event is linked to the allocation of CLI funding which Connexions hopes to again provide to schools, colleges and other institutions.

All these should have received a flyer and booking form in December 2009.

The booking form can also be downloaded here and should be returned to Jane Shearer jshearer@connexions-northamptonshire.org.uk by 31st January 2010.  Please contact Jane if you require any further information about the Resources Fair or CLI funding.

Recommended Resources for Schools, Colleges & Special Schools

We have compiled some lists of resources that learning providers may find useful for their Connexions libraries. These consist of paper, websites and helplines and are arranged in CRCI order. There are separate lists for Schools, Colleges and Special Schools. Make sure you download the appropriate one for your institution. They are not designed to be a complete list, but examples of resources that may be useful. Please give any feedback to Jane Shearer in the IAGS team.

How Connexions PAs work with schools, academies, pupil referral units and colleges

All institutions have a Lead Personal Adviser, who is responsible for:

• Negotiating and monitoring the annual Partnership Agreement
• Acting as the main link between the institution and the local Connexions delivery team
• Supporting the annual audit of the Connexions Library, as part of the CLI process

In addition to the Lead Personal Adviser, there may be one or more other PAs linked to the institution, supporting the delivery of services to learners. PAs work with young people in education in the following ways:

• Regular, advertised drop-ins – where learners can see the PA without an appointment and get brief assistance with their queries
• Face-to-face appointments – which learners book in advance
• Assemblies
• Group work
• Job Seeker workshops
• Parents’ events
• Year 9 Transition Planning and Section 140 in year 11

Although the PA’s main function is to work with learners, they may be able to support other work in the school. For example, advising on resources for use with learners, tutor training or curriculum development. These activities must be negotiated as part of the Partnership Agreement.

(Young people not in education can see PAs at their local Connexions centre.)
